When I see the smile on a woman’s face as she looks in the mirror and is happy with the way she sees herself, I know that I have done my job.

Simply stated, my promise to our customers is to bring fashionable clothing with the best style, fit and comfort into our store so that every woman has the opportunity to look and feel her very best. This is an easily understood concept, more challenging to bring into reality.

My retail career began in Lynbrook, New York at my husband’s family-run womens’ wear boutique. Having graduated college with a degree in French, (well, now it comes in handy as I shop European resources!), I learned early on that retail was the career choice for me. I couldn’t believe I was actually earning a paycheck because I loved the work so much.

I moved to San Diego in 1975 and got a job as an executive with the May Company. After 7 years with a major department store, I learned what made for successful business and excellent customer relations and perhaps, more importantly, what didn’t work.

I was determined to strike out on my own and do it my way!

In 1987, I sent out one hundred letters to every broker in San Diego County, looking for a business for sale that fit certain criteria. And I found one. It was called Bigger “n Better (by popular demand, we have since changed the name to Distinctions).

For the last 20 years (in addition to raising 3 beautiful children with my husband), my mission has been to be the best resource for unique plus-size sportswear and special occasion anywhere, and that means doing whatever it takes to bring you the best in fashion. In the last few years, I have been shopping the European plus-size market, to offer an expanded selection of special looks here in the United States.

Our merchandise offering is unlike any store of our kind anywhere!!! I know of no other store that has the amazing selection and depth that we can offer our customers.

Our beautiful 4,000 square foot store located in Grossmont Center, San Diego has been in the business of offering updated fashions to the local community and the many tourists that visit Southern California.

Now, with our website, we can reach thousands of women in the United States to show them this incredible selection. Our team of sales professionals assist our customers in the store or on the phone with enthusiasm, caring and courteous efficiency. Many of our customers have become good friends over the years, as we hope all of you do, too.
